Dear Members,

I just wanted to tell you how happy I am about all the activities we have planned for 2015 and that so many came forward to offer their time to work for our executive committee. I know Devorah Fallows, Dr. Zhang and Dr. Lana Liable have busy practices and we are very lucky to have them on our team. Thank you so much.

We are here to support our members, provide more education for our members and to promote our profession. Almost everyone has paid the 2015 dues and we appreciate that support from each of you. Dr. Feng Jia will be responsible for continuing education and examination and will work together with Dr. Qing Zhang (Director of Education and Research) to help with conferences and courses for members. Dora Poole has offered to be responsible for Ethics and temporarily looking after Membership. Dr. Lana Liable will be responsible for Public Relations and Marketing and will work with Gwen on marketing opportunities.

I really want to encourage each of you to participate in our upcoming Women’s Health & Wellness Conference. This is a great opportunity to meet with each other in person and build relationships while earning CEUs. We also want as many of you as possible to attend the AGM that we will hold over the lunch hour. Lunch will be provided.

The WFAS Conference this September in Toronto is also really important. It is not very often that we get a chance to go to a meeting like this one. This meeting is being held for the first time in Canada and it is a great honour and opportunity to be able to attend. This is the largest, most prestigious Acupuncture Association in the world. This is a special year for acupuncture with acupuncture specialists coming from all over the world to share their knowledge with us here in Canada. I know it is expensive but we are putting our heads together as an executive, to see how we can reduce the costs and travel together. So please let us know if you plan to go.

Other areas of education that we see include bringing in a third party TCM exam for our membership. In addition many of you have been asking about taking a Dr. of TCM program to further your education. The CCATCM and Dr. Zhang are looking at what is needed to develop a program, based on BC standards, for those who are interested.

Debra Holman has done a lot of work to date in the area of regulation. She has offered her support and we are really thankful to have her help us. Devorah Fallows has come to us from British Columbia where regulation is the most mature. Her insights and commitment to this area of responsibility is really fortunate for us. We are so glad to have her and with Debra’s help, we will be able to start moving on this again.

I am very confident that 2015 will be a great year for all of us. Next month is the Chinese New Year, the year of the Sheep. I wish everyone a happy, healthy and prosperous New Year!

Sincerely,

Dr. Diana Tong Li, (Dr. Ac, Dr. TCM, Ph.D, ND (Dr.NM), MD [China])

President of NS Chapter of CMAAC (the Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture Association of Canada), Vice President of ANANS, Executive Member of the World Federation of Acupuncture-Moxibustion Societies (WFAS)
